After selling his first skiing goggles in 1965, Dr. Bob Smith kept on working on his products for many years without giving them a proper name. He rather invested his time into dreaming up a venting system and a rim made from soft foam, that kept his goggles from fogging up and made them comfy to wear or the roll-off film, a stick-on foil that can be torn off when the lens gets too dirty.
